Mokohinau Islands Fishing Charters

Kingfish, Snapper & Big Game Action at the Mokes

The Mokohinau Islands are a wild, remote chain of reefs and pinnacles sitting where the inner gulf meets the open ocean — a meeting place of tides, bait, and predator fish. Here, kingfish cruise the drop-offs, snapper patrol the reef edges, and pelagic visitors like tuna and marlin can show up without warning.

Eco Adventures heads out to this legendary offshore fishing ground where guests experience heart-pounding fishing on the edge of the Hauraki Gulf. This is real fishing: big water, big fish, big scenery, and a whole lot of stories.

Fishing Charter – FAQ's

Not at all! Our expert guides will provide all the instruction you need, whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned angler. We’re here to make sure everyone has a great time!

We provide all the gear (rods, reels, tackle, and safety equipment), so just bring yourself, comfortable clothing, sunscreen, and a hat. If you’d like to bring any snacks or drinks, feel free to do so!

The Mokes are home to a variety of fish species, including snapper, kingfish, trevally, hapuka and more. Your guide will take you to the best fishing spots based on the season and conditions.

Food isn’t provided; we recommend bringing your snacks and beverages to stay fuelled throughout the day. There are lots of great bakeries, coffee shops and a few supermarkets in Mangawhai that can be options. We can also help you arrange for lunch or soft drinks and water upon request at the time of booking.

When heading to the Mokes, we depart Mangawhai Heads, usually around 6 am, and return at 5 pm, depending on the weather conditions on the day. We can also arrange for longer trips if you’re looking for more adventure!

To help prevent seasickness, stay hydrated, eat a light meal beforehand, focus on the horizon, and consider motion sickness remedies like ginger, wristbands, or medication. If using sea sickness medication, it is advised by the manufacturers to take it a day in advance. Read the labels carefully.

If you would like to bring anyone under the age of 12, please speak with us first so we can make sure we can safely accommodate you and your guests, or suggest the best options to suit you.
